Writing season!

Gen_astrolabe
I have my Yuletide assignment, and it is going to be both nicely challenging and fun.

I have a list of things I want to write as treats, and those are going to be fun too.

I have my HLH_Shortcuts assignment, and an idea for what to do with it.

So far I have managed to post something to [dreamwidth.org profile] fan_flashworks every challenge since the beginning of June. Still need to get something up for the current one, but I have something I can post. I just want to get a little more of it.

[dreamwidth.org profile] mini_wrimo is right around the corner, and I have signed up with my usual 100 words a day, and my plan is to write a Yuletide Drabble each day, as a warm up. And if they turn into full-length treats that is lovely, and if they stay drabbles that is lovely too.

Plus - Mini-Wrimo will be posting on Dreamwidth this year, not just LJ! Here is the info/signup post

In celebration of these excellencies, I have made the first batch of Eggnog, currently doing it's alchemical thing in the fridge right now. I decided that what with the notable Durin's Day (a lunar and a solar eclipse!) the festive season should start immediately.

It is finally, finally beginning to cool off. I slept under covers all night last night.

Dear Yule Writer

Yuletide_StagPolychrome
Signup achieved, more details forthcoming

First off, Dear Writer, thank you for loving something I love, and writing for me. I have never been disappointed in a Yuletide piece written for me, and I am sure I will love yours!

1. Take Some Fire - Any
2. JC Leyendecker - All
3. Drujienna's Harp : Eshone's Father, Acheron
4. Till We Have Faces (Song)
5. The Iliad - Homer : Hector, Odysseus, Hephaestus
6. The Prydwen Sails Again (song)

General ThoughtsCollapse )

Individual Requests

1. Take Some Fire - Any
I adore all four of these songs, both together and individually. I will be happy with a story that combines some or all of them, or deals with any one of them singly. Would prefer something with a hopeful or positive slant/ending.

MoreCollapse )

2. JC Leyendecker - Works
— Blond Arrow Collar Man
— Brunet Arrow Collar Man
— Interwoven Socks Man
— Arrow Collar Woman
A glimpse into these people's lives and loves would be a delight.

MoreCollapse )

ResourcesCollapse )

3. Drujienna's Harp - Ellen Kindt McKenzie
— Eshone's Father
— Acheron
Is Acheron the Wizard? Is Eshone's Father Drujienna's Father in a new life? How have they held on through the years, what is their story, their relationship? Anything at all will be a delight to know.

4. Till We Have Faces (Song)
I love the atmosphere of this song, and the contrast between the lover and the beloved.

Song on YouTube
Lyrics are on this page with a sample, about 3/4ths the way down.

LyricsCollapse )

5. The Iliad - Homer
— Hector (Iliad)
— Odysseus (Iliad)
— Hephaestus (Iliad)

I would love to see something happen between these two, before or during (or after! What if Hector doesn't actually die? Or in the afterlife? Or perhaps in re-incarnation or something) the story. I do see Hector as played by Eric Bana in Troy and Odysseus as played by Sean Bean, but that's really a visual/aural reference only, and if you see them differently, that is totally ok. Slash could be fun, though I'd prefer it if Andromache were not dissed in the process.

Anyway: Hector, noble, brave and true, (also: not stupid), and Odysseus, too smart for his own good. Sparks and snark and adventures.

Alternately, Hephaestus, solo or in combination with Hector | Odysseus — what is his perspective on this whole thing? How did he come to make the artifacts he does that get used & misused in the war? (Hephaestus is definitely one of the Smiths and Makers of my heart.)

Ideally, I would like a happy tale, not a bleak one, canon or otherwise.

Additional Thoughts:
Or a threesome with Andromache - heck, if we're speculating that far, Andromache/Penelope and Hector/Odysseus, or all 4 together.

6. The Prydwen Sails Again (Song)
— The Singer,
— The Singer's Boyfriend
Home came seven from Caer Siddi -- was the singer's boyfriend one of them? Why isn't the singer on the quest?

This mythology and story are fascinating to me, and the atmosphere of the song is so haunting. I would love essentially anything dealing with before, during or after, though some kind of hope would be appreciated.

3 Positive Things meme Day 5

FL_Gillyflower
1. Very good working breakfast with Reagan. Both the work and the breakfast were excellent.

2, Have patterned the stoles for the play, got the Cooks & Bards satchel amended with pockets & shorter strap, and got several more braies assembled. Only elastic to go on those.

3. New chapter in King Come at Red Morning by Tawabids. Such an excellent story.

3 Positive Things meme Day 4

SeasonAutumnEquinox
1. I have a (fairly silly/fun idea for the new Fan Flashworks challenge, directly as a result of Tumblr. The new challenge is Music.

2. I got a little bit of order wreaked on my guest room.

3. Got the purple satin for the stoles I am making for a play, and got fabric pre-washed, & ironed.

3 Positive Things meme day 3

FL_Gillyflower
1. I had a lovely time this afternoon taking my stepmom to Bookmans, where I found a very nifty wooden serving object with three dishes that folds up into a flat, compact thing. And it fits (at an angle, but still) into the box I keep the pickle-plate dishes in.

2. Madame Faust posted a Lovely new chapter of Into The West.

3. My dad wants to put the poem I wrote yesterday into His book. The one that details his research.

Meme - Positive Things Day 2

Spirit_spiralgift
Meme - not-tagged by [dreamwidth.org profile] devohoneybee

Rules: for five consecutive days post three positive things that have happened, plus tag three other people to do the same, so the positivity keeps growing.

May or may not stick to the "consecutive" bit.

I am going to go with Devo's 'encourage-not-tag' idea.

1. Wrote and posted a poem with art for the 'Explorations' challenge on fan_flashworks: QTC.
2. Got useful work done on the piece I was wanting to finish for the challenge, and had a good chat with Zana about it, resulting in my deciding to let the piece take its own time & not stress over it.
3. A load of laundry done & hung up (we take our victories where we find them :-))

Hi! Not dead, though I certainly haven't posted here in a while. I have been posting to [dreamwidth.org profile] fan_flashworks for each challenge since the beginning of June, though.

1. I remembered to scan & photoshop a piece of artwork for Janet, so a thing off my list.
2. Cooler, damper weather (courtesy Odile, and likely over for now, but I certainly enjoyed it while it was here!)
3. I am loving Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor.

Ao3 Meme

I haven't posted in ages -- eep!

Not dead, semi-employed, been actively enjoying the last bits of cooler weather before the onslaught of consistent triple digits.

[dreamwidth.org profile] lost_spook posted this interesting meme:

Answer the following 10 questions based only on the stories you've posted to AO3:
1) Which fandoms have you written in?
2) Your best story title and why
3) Your worst story title and why
4) The most popular pairing you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
5) The rarest pairing you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
6) The most popular OT3/moresome you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
7) The rarest OT3/moresome you've written for (by the standard of how many stories exist for that pairing written by everyone on AO3)
8) First story and latest story you posted to AO3
9) Your top ten pairings on AO3
10) How many stories have you written with no pairings/OT3/moresomes listed? What's the breakdown on your stories' ratings?

I currently have 338 (339 if you count the unrevealed Remix 11 fic) pieces on Ao3. This should be interesting.

Answers are under the cutCollapse )

That was interesting. And took a while.

At some point I may go through and work out the numbers by story/poetry/art/other.

Yuletide and HLH_Shortcuts

Yuletide_StagPolychrome
I know it is somewhat late for this, but better late than never.

I received four wonderful full-length stories for yuletideCollapse )
The delightful fic I was given in the hlh_shortcuts exchange was A Caper a Day by [dreamwidth.org profile] pat_t. And a romping caper it is, too.

I wrote things as well —
For Yuletide I wrote my assignment, a pinch-hit and 10 drabbles as part of the YUletide MAdness DRabble INitiative (#yumadrin). Read more...Collapse )

For Highlander Holiday Shortcuts, I wrote my assignment and a pinch-hit for one of the pinch-hitters. Read more...Collapse )
The other things I wrote in December are going in a separate post.

Stuff and Things

FL_Gillyflower
Not dead! I seem to have acquired a cold. At least it waited until after coronation!

Still without actual job, but there are commissions, and stuff to do for my dad, and I am making things work.

The weather has finally, finally, finally cooled off.

Some very lovely things have happened, and I am going to concentrate on them.

1. Ivan and Ian'ka had a wonderful reign, that I got to be a major part of, and that is now done. We can all relax some now! I even managed to get a song written for them.

2. Ari and I were given Augmentations of Arms - Ari's is a quill for her griffin to hold, and mine is blue rose to go in the lower left-hand quadrant of my arms, balancing the white triskele in the upper right. I keep randomly grinning about that. They totally surprised us. Icka gave me a lovely blue resin rose yesterday at scribble.

3. I am really happy with both my HLH_Shortcuts assignment and my Yuletide assignment. Ideas are percolating, and I even have a sentence or so on one of them.

4. Day 5 of miniwrimo, and it is going well. I have two drabble-ish bits and a song written so far. Not a lot of word-count, but more than the minimum.

5. I have friends and family who love me. Thank you all. I don't always remember to say it, but I am so glad you are in my life. Lovely long visit with Morgyn & Megan, and now they are safely home & I have the house to myself again. Both states are good. Z and Tíli are very happy to have me all to themselves.

*Sends hugs and love and good thoughts out to everyone*

Bee-Blessing

Spirit_Ansuz
Written for the arrival of a new colony of bees into the care and keeping of the Hrafnar Kindred, in the SF Bay Area, April 2013.

Blessed be to Bee and bee-home
Bounty bring to hearth and hive!
Kith and kindred welcome winged ones
Here from hence to dwell in delight
We proudly praise the golden givers!
The honey-hall now right and ready,
Made for makers by our own hands.
Welcome, wise ones! Be thou blessed!

It is distantly related to the Anglo-Saxon Bee-charm, in the sense that I have read it, though as there is no index entry for bee or bees in my copy of Pollington's Leechcraft, I am failing to find the actual original, and I don't quite trust the Wikipedia article, so I can't say more about what the influences might be. I wasn't thinking of or remembering that source at all when I wrote it, so I suspect the influence is minimal.
